Welcome to Mud Hut Village
Mud Hut Village (Lehmdorf in Skolkanian) is Skolkan's most unique settlement, a thriving eco-village of 850 residents dedicated to sustainable living and ancient building traditions. Established in 1987 by environmental pioneers, this intentional community has become an internationally recognized model for ecological living, permaculture, and community resilience.
The village features traditional earthen architecture with homes built from cob, adobe, and rammed earth - construction methods dating back thousands of years. Every structure blends seamlessly with the landscape, featuring living roofs covered in wildflowers and herbs. The community is entirely off-grid, powered by solar, wind, and biogas from composting toilets. Rainwater harvesting, organic farming, and zero-waste living are not just ideals here - they're daily practice.
